
Tim Westwood is regarded as the most influential European figure in hip-hop. Starting his expansive career as the co-founder of the pirate station 'LWR Kiss FM' he then moved to Capital FM in 1987, to present the Rap Show.
Westwood joined the star cast of Radio 1 in 1994, which can be caught every Friday, and Saturday night from 9-11pm and 9-12am respectively.
Westwood is very active as a club DJ throughout the UK and organises his own events. He is the only UK member of the renowned Big Dawg Pitbulls fronted by Funk Master Flex, New York.
Westwood's career has also translated into other industries. March 2001 saw the release of Westwood's first album Westwood the album that went silver. Three more albums have subsequently been released, Westwood Volume 2 (Gold, 2001), Westwood Volume 3 (Gold, 2002), Westwood UK Hip Hop (2002) and Westwood the Platinum Edition (2003). A DVD with exclusive footage is also due for release in 2004.
Westwood has hosted his own TV show on ITV and presented for UK Play, Channel U and has own page in Tense magazine.
As a positive personality, Westwood is also the patron of Nordoff Robins Dance Charity, Radio Feltham, Young Offenders Inst and Body and Soul Teen Spirit.
Many awarding bodies have acknowledged Westwood's career including the Sony awards for the Best Specialist Music Programme in 1990, 1991 and 1999 and Best Music Broadcaster in 1996 and 2000, Muzik Magazine for the Best Radio Show in 1999, MOBO award for the Best UK DJ in 2000 and 2003. The readers of Hip Hop Connection magazine also voted no 1 Rap DJ Westwood for 12 successive years.
