When it comes to DJ skills, gender is not an issue with Cocoa Chanelle. Cocoa has established herself as one of the top DJs in the metropolitan area. According to Cocoa, it's been a labor of love. She started out as an MC and was put on to DJing by her brother at age 13.
In 1991 she DJ’ed for The Kings of Swing on their hit, "Nod Ya Head To This." Her big break was landing a slot on BET's "Teen Summit." She later became involved with HOT 97 as a guest DJ on the Morning Show's feature Traffic Jam and the Street Party with Flex.
In 1996, "Ladies' Night" was born and she joined forces with fellow female DJ Jazzy Joyce and then host Angie Martinez. Since then, she has been listed as one of the top 20 DJ's in the country, and she was the first female to ever appear on MTV's "Spring Break". She has also been a featured DJ on BET's "Rap City".
