Biography

1 1

Sofia has just finished filming Absolute Power, a new BBC series in which she plays a funky young reporter for 17 Magazine.

Her character reflects her real life. She has been a TV presenter for Zee Music, the biggest Asian station in the world, for 2 years and her show has a cult following of 600,000 young British Asians every week. She takes on the London Club Massive and interviews people from Darius Dinesh to Lord Attenborough.

Whilst at a party at The Grosvenor House Hotel a friend handed her a microphone and told her to sing. She was such a natural with the mic that she was immediately snapped up to present "Sorted". She is now the face of the British Asian Club scene.

She has appeared on a number of music videos including Westlife. Although Sofia has come to the public eye through acting and presenting, her real love is music. She has been singing and writing since the age of five. She draws inspiration from her life. The culture clash of being both Asian and British has imbued her writing with a passion born from the contradictions she, as a second generation Asian, has to face.

Her most memorable live peformance was when she went t o the British Grand Prix and gate crashed David Coultards after party. She asked if she could peform a song on the main stage with the live act. She did. "It was open air and I sang "Killing me softly". The crowd who were all friends, family and celebrity guests of David Coulthard, all lit up their lighters and held it in the air. It was magical". She was then approached by his management who were so impressed by her singing, that they took her details as they wanted her to peform at another private party of his!

She is currently working towards her first UK album, and is writing with some hot producers from Scandinavia and UK with excellent Urban, R'n'B background including Big Brovaz, Mel C and Liberty X.

Her music is commercial R'n'B with strong Asian influences using instruments like Dholl, Tabla, and singing in Urdu and Punjabi.
