Coming from a musical background I have been inspired by my father Sewa Singh Matharu, lead singer of the 70’s & 80’s Band Ashoka, and also my brother Harry Matharu who is a talented keyboard player having played for many bands including XLNC, Malkit Singh and now with the Safri Boys.I myself have been in the music industry for about 5 years whether its been playing for bands, Dj’ing or even producing music, However it was recently I realised my lifetime ambition and made the decision to be a singer. With the guidance of my father with my singing and support musically from my brother, I produced and sang my first album “ The First Chapter”, which proved to be a great success for me, it earned me great respect even though it was my first album and I was lucky enough to be recognised for it by receiving the Best Newcomer award at the Asian Pop Awards 2000. Now things can only get better as I am receiving more and more bookings for gigs and near to the completion of my new album soon to be released called “ No Regrets ”.
“The first Chapter” has come and gone and in less than one year I feel I have been through a lifetime. Sold out sales from my first album, countless magazine mentions, 15 radio interviews, a handful of television appearances, over fifty live night club gigs and here we are. Oh yeah and the ‘Best Male Newcomer’ award as well to top it off. As you can see it’s been a very busy and important year for me. It's been tough also as I found certain people knocked me back and yet I am proud to present to you my second album, ‘No Regrets’. It’s been a dream come true for me. I could have never expected to have done and achieved so much in such a short time. ‘No Regrets’, is a thank you to every one who has supported me and gave me confidence in what I have done. At the same time it shows what I have learnt over the year and the experience I have gained from performing live on stage. This album consists of ideas I have picked up, from watching the public at various events all over the country, and through all age groups and seeing their reactions to different types of music and sound, and I have created this album on that basis. An album for all to enjoy. A year may be a short time in a career such as singing but I feel I have come a long way from ‘The First Chapter’, both musically and vocally. This album is more about me, where as I held back in my first album I have let myself and my feelings show in this album. This album is about the type of music I enjoy listening to.
